"Fine art is that in which the hand, the head, and the heart of man go together."
--- John Ruskin
“He who works with his hands is a laborer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”
― St. Francis of Assisi

HAAT (Humanitas Academy of Art & Technology)
is a small, progressive pilot school built by a passionate group of
dedicated teachers to provide educational equity in East LA.

A public high school and part of LA Unified School District, as a pilot school, HAAT has more autonomy over budget, staffing , governance, curriculum & assessment, and the school calendar.

HAAT was founded in 2010 on the new Esteban E. Torres HS campus,

along with four other small pilot schools,
the first new high schools built in East LA in 80 years.

HAAT uses an arts-based, Humanitas instructional model of challenging, interdisciplinary curricula. This model empowers students through project-based learning that encourages critical thinking, writing and verbal skills.

HAAT is a Title One school serving students from

low income and minority backgrounds.
